Helena passed away Monday at the Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City, SD at the age of 89 years. |
Helena Dora Davy was born on October 1, 1920 to Christopher Peter and Laura Isabelle Smith Nelson in Beacon, Iowa. She attended the Beacon schools. She married Marion A. Davy on November 28, 1946 in Oskaloosa. Helena was very artistically inclined and enjoyed drawing, sewing, crocheting, knitting, cake decorating and all kinds of crafts. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved nature and flowers (she could always revive our ailing plants.) She was over a 40 year member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. Helena lived in the Oskaloosa area for 79 years before moving to Rockton, Illinois in 2000 and to Rapid City, South Dakota in 2005.

Helena’s family includes one son, James Davy, of Rapid City, South Dakota and one daughter, LeeAnn (Alan) Mowbray, of Machesney Park, Illinois. She is survived by two granddaughters, Jessica (Chris) Olson and Diana (Oskar) Agustsson and one grandson, Eric (Natalie) Mowbray, and 4 great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Helena has one surviving brother, Forrest (Virginia) Nelson of Indianola and many nieces and nephews.

Helena was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers: Hiram Nelson, Thomas Nelson, James Nelson, LeRoy Nelson, and her sisters: Florence Knight and Mary Ann Huffman.
