Visitation: Will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday morning, December 11, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2009 at College Avenue Friends Church with Reverend Tom Palmer officating. A Funeral Luncheon will preceed the service at 11:45 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. The family invites all those wishing to attend the service to join them for the luncheon.
Interment: Friends Cemetery in New Sharon

Bertha passed away Tuesday morning at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 23 days.

Bertha Mae Ver Steegh was born April 15, 1925, in Lacey, Iowa to Cecil and Cora Dilley Criss. Bertha was a 1942 graduate of Urbana High School in Urbana Iowa. August 14th, 1947, Bertha married Ted Ver Steegh in New Sharon. They made their home in rural New Sharon, Iowa, where for over 40 years Bertha was the New Sharon Librarian and Ted farmed. Bertha enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and church functions. She also loved attending North Mahaska athletic events and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of the Prairie Knolls Country Club, the Red Hat Ladies from New Sharon and held many offices in the New Sharon Women’s Club. She was a member of the Oskaloosa Friends Church, where she also held several offices in the Martha Faye Circle.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ted Ver Steegh; her daughter, Beth (Eric) Otto; grandchildren: Brent and Allison Otto; a great-grandson, Collins Otto; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Criss, Evelyn Dunnick and Anita (Frank) Younkin; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Prine; an infant son, Frederick; brothers: Ed and Paul Criss; and a sister, Sylvia Cline.

Memorials contributions may be made to the College Avenue Friends Church or Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines.
