Mary Agnes Brubaker was born December 23, 1918, in rural Marion County, near Tracy, Iowa, in the home of her parents Leo and Myra Nace Brubaker. Mary was over six feet tall and was a star basketball player at Tracy High School once scoring 36 of her teams 41 points in a victory. During World War II she married an Air Force pilot, Hank Green. They had one child, Jon Henry Green, born July 17, 1943. Mary and Hank divorced after the war and Mary raised her son as a single parent. In 1948, Mary purchased a small home in Okmulgee and lived there until her death. Mary started as a secretary at Oklahoma State Tech. College in Okmulgee, walking to work as she could not afford a car and rose to the position of assistant to the president of the college at her retirement. The pride and joy of Mary's life was her son Jon who was six foot seven, played basketball at Oklahoma State University and who became a rocket scientist at NASA working on the moon landing and star wars projects. Jon died of cancer at the age of 58 on June 28, 2002. Mary had a passion for art and was an accomplished artist, painting in oils and she loved to draw cartoons and write short stories.
