| Funeral Service: Funeral services will be held Monday, at 10:30 A.M. March 01, 2010 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Poe of the First Church of the Open Bible officiating. |
Interment: Friends Cemetery. |
Leroy passed away Tuesday evening, February 23, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of sixty two years, ten months and fifteen days. |
Manford LeRoy Almond, son of Harlan Lee and Dicia Burkart Almond, was born April 8, 1947 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. LeRoy attended Oskaloosa schools. After his schooling, LeRoy served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. While serving his country in Vietnam, LeRoy was wounded in battle and received a purple heart. After returning home he met Janetta Kay Pelong and the two were united in marriage in 1973. LeRoy and Janetta made their home in Rose Hill, IA. He was a member of the American Legion in Oskaloosa. LeRoy loved life and loved spending time with his grandchildren and other family. Karaoke was one of his all time favorite activities, as was fishing and hunting, especially pheasant hunting. |
He is survived by his wife, Janetta of 37 years; his five children: Carmen Janetta Almond and her fiancé, John Pearson, of Rose Hill, James Almond of Iowa City, Lorie Poush of Oskaloosa, Mark Almond of Oskaloosa, and Martin Almond of Wright; one sister, Donna Bowen of Oskaloosa; other family includes: Manford and Bobby Jo Burkhart of Knoxville; Ralph Sorson of Harvey; Dixie Smith of Knoxville; Dick Breuklander of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Aaron and Harlan Almond of Rose Hill, Dillion and Kyle Almond of New Sharon, and Annie Poush and Brandon Almond of Oskaloosa; special friends, Ray and Martha Roberts of Rose Hill; and special friend and cousin, Dick Burkhart and his friend Pauline of Minnesota. |
LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents Harlan and Dicia Almond, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. |
